Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 Training
Before you can apply to become a retained Firefighter, you must prove that you are at least level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy. This is equivalent to A* - C grade at GCSE level.
To gain your level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy you will need to take a test at your local Learndirect centre. Once you have passed, you can then use your results slip to prove that you are level 2 in both Literacy and Numeracy. The level 2 certificates are government funded, therefore are free to anyone wishing to take them.
The Process
- Arrange an appointment with your local Learndirect centre.
- Complete a Literacy and Numeracy initial assessment at your local centre.
- The results from the initial assessment will determine whether you are ready to take the tests straight away or whether you need any training. Your local Learndirect centre will advise you on any training needs you may have. The training can be completed at your local centre or online via the Learndirect website.
- Once you have passed the level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy, you can progress to the next stage of the application process with Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
Please note: You will need to bring a form of ID with you when attending the centre. For further information and to arrange an appointment with your local Learndirect centre contact us now on:
