Medical Secretarial Diploma

The Pitman Training Medical Secretary Diploma covers a comprehensive range of practical skills and information, essential for a secretary working in the medical profession. The course has short course approval from the Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists (AMSPAR)

“Choosing the Medical Secretarial Diploma was the bravest and best decision I have ever made. I am now employed as secretary to one of the Gastroenterologists at St Peter’s Hospital.”

Medical secretaries fulfil a crucial role as the link between doctor and patient, and for this reason are required to be tactful, discreet and, above all, sensitive. Of the greatest importance, however, is the secretary’s ability to successfully complete a complex array of administrative and technical tasks relating to the job, such as compiling confidential letters, typing reports for patient records and medical journals and ensuring the general flawless running of the office. Medical secretaries are also expected by employers in the healthcare sector to be proficient in medical terminology, medical audio-typing and medical word processing skills. Nationally recognised skills for medical secretaries are generally considered to be advantageous to any individual seeking employment in this sector. The Pitman Training Medical Secretarial Diploma combines expert secretarial skills with a broad understanding of medical terminology, to enable individuals to apply for jobs within the healthcare sector. Successful completion of the ‘Medical Secretary – An Introduction’ course; will give the student the opportunity to achieve the AMSPAR Certificate in Medical Terminology qualification (additional home study is recommended). Learning these skills is easy with Pitman Training. Our tried and trusted methods are the best available. Karen Orbell (Bromley) says...
I decided at the beginning of this year that I wanted to change the environment that I was currently working in. Working in the medical field really appealed to me and so I decided to enroll on a Medical PA Diploma course at Pitmans in Bromley. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and I was able to study during the evenings which fitted around my job. I have now completed the course and taken the AMSPAR Exam. I applied for a position as a Team Administrator in the NHS and was successful. Taking this course had enabled me to gain a new position in a field that I was really keen to work in.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my course as I was able to fit it around family life. It has given me the confidence to get a better job than the one that I am in now.

When I first came into the centre I just wanted advice on courses available and the cost. Kirsty sat with me and explained how everything works and I agreed to go away and think about it. I discussed it with my husband as to do the course was a big expense for us. We decided to take the plunge and to view it as an investment for the future. And I have to say I have never regretted that decision. I have really enjoyed the learning itself and knowing that it will give me greater opportunities for the future is an added bonus! My whole working life has always been in retail up until this point. So while training I decided to search for a job within the medical field to gain some admin experience as I work towards my medical secretarial diploma. I was successful in gaining a position as a Ward Clerk/Receptionist in a small hospital and I am sure the fact that I put on my application that I am currently studying with Pitmans went a long way to my being appointed.
